SlaveryMap is an interactive documentation tool built by Not For Sale to map verified cases of human trafficking and modern slavery around the world. Each pin on the map represents a real, documented case — sourced from news reports, law enforcement records, NGO investigations, and community submissions.

Why It Exists

Human trafficking is often described in abstract statistics — 50 million people in modern slavery worldwide. SlaveryMap makes the crisis concrete and local. By placing individual cases on a map, we reveal the geographic patterns, the trafficking types, and the gaps in enforcement that numbers alone can't show.

The map is a tool for researchers, journalists, policymakers, and advocates who need to understand where trafficking happens, how it operates, and what interventions have been attempted.

What We Document

SlaveryMap tracks six categories of trafficking and exploitation: sex trafficking, forced labor, bonded labor, domestic servitude, forced marriage, and child exploitation. Each case includes the location, date, a summary of what happened, details on the traffickers and any law enforcement or intervention response, and links to primary sources.

How Cases Are Verified

Cases in the database are sourced from credible news outlets, court records, and NGO reports. Each case is reviewed by Not For Sale investigators before it's marked as verified. Community members can also submit cases through the map — these are flagged for review and added to the public dataset once verified.

This approach reflects Not For Sale's commitment to Open Source Activism — the belief that fighting trafficking is not the work of any single organization but a collective effort. By making case data publicly accessible and inviting community participation, SlaveryMap puts investigative power in the hands of researchers, journalists, advocates, and ordinary citizens. Transparency accelerates accountability. The more eyes on the data, the harder it is for exploitation to hide.
